A Practical Guide to Your First Bike & Packraft Adventure
Bikerafting has been on your mind for a while. You browse packrafts, look at photos from rivers and think about where you could go. You know you’d like to try it. You just haven’t done it yet.
Maybe you don’t know which gear to choose. Maybe you’re not sure how to prepare your first trip. Or maybe you just feel you need to know a lot more first.
This handbook was written for exactly this stage: to sort out the first decisions and take you from being interested in bikerafting to your own trip.
You don’t need to know every river right away, own the best gear or have hundreds of kilometres on the water behind you. You need to know how to start and what to watch out for before you set off.
We’ve gathered in one place the information you need to stop just planning and start preparing your own trip.
It’s meant to be useful when you’re actually planning a trip. That’s why the information on the route, put-in, portages, water level and logistics is gathered together for each loop.
You see where you start, where you put in and which way you return.

Where the start is, where you get down to the water, what to do with the bike on the bank.
One page to go through the evening before the trip.
You don’t have to be an expert. This handbook is meant to help you exactly when
your first trip is still ahead of you.

Each loop says which option is possible.
The point isn’t to give you yet another list of tips. The point is that when you plan a specific trip, you don’t have to look for the key information in eight different places.

My name is Karol and I run Stan Wody. I love trips to the other side of the world, but I feel just as much at home on a bike ride close to home or on a kayak trip. Bikerafting lets you combine two of these things into one trip.
Cyclists and hikers today have plenty of great digital tools. When I looked for something similar for people who want to spend time on the water, I couldn’t find anything that met my needs. So I built my own. Stan Wody describes Polish rivers and lakes, pulls current water-level data from IMGW-PIB, the Polish national hydrological service, and runs the Kayak Map of Poland with marked stretches, portages and bans.
Descriptions on Stan Wody are based on a table of sources and quotations. Before information about a weir, a portage or a ban goes into a text, I assign it a specific source, a quotation and an address where it can be checked. This handbook follows the same rule. If sources disagree, I choose the more cautious option and note the discrepancy.
